About Foster Counseling & Therapy
Foster is a values-based counseling and therapy practice that pairs evidence-based approaches with a simple belief that you're not broken and you don't need to be fixed. We serve kids (8+), teens, and adults, with in-person care based in McHenry and DeKalb Counties, Illinois, and virtual care available across the state.
We use real, human interaction that's clinically informed to help facilitate insight, growth, and transformation, and to help you feel supported in your everyday life. You'll find that we're genuine, approachable, and authentically compassionate. Our story
Foster Counseling & Therapy was founded by Katie Higgins, LCPC in 2022 on a simple belief: that effective therapy should be warm, evidenced-based and free of judgment — a place where people feel genuinely understood, not labeled. With curiosity and compassion at front and center, Foster and its team work to connect genuinely and deeply with you, human-to-human.
What began as a solo practice has grown into a fantastic team of licensed clinicians across two Illinois offices, Lake in the Hills and Sycamore, united by a shared commitment to authentic and consistent care.
We're honored to now have long-standing connections within the community and a reputation that reflects our values as clinicians and as a practice: integrity, honesty, authenticity and compassion.
